“Two truths, one lie” is an exercise that allows you to strengthen team ties through a simple game. It is perfectly suited to a newly formed team, or one that has added one or more new members.
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
Materials:
As a facilitator, you ask each participant to think about three facts. There should be two that are events that actually happened (the two truths) and another event that is invented (one lie).
Each participant states their three facts without saying what is true or false.
Without asking for more details or debating, the other participants must identify which stories are true and which is false.
At the end of the exercise, you encourage participants to share the surprises that each other’s truths may have generated.
A variation of this exercise is to stop the sequence after the facts have been stated and allow participants to take advantage of lunch or breaks to discuss with each other and refine their predictions. In this case, you can ask participants to write down their guess on a sheet that will be posted on the wall.
