Five Senses

Sharing your mood of the day differently

Pratique

Aim

The Five Senses Method offers participants the opportunity to express their mood through hearing, taste, smell, touch and sight. It enables us to use our capacity for introspection and to be open to different perceptions.

Instructions

Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes

Key Steps

As a facilitator, you invite participants to listen, smell, taste, look at and touch the items previously placed in the centre of the room. Everyone then identifies the item that best corresponds to their current state of mind.

In turn, each participant has two minutes to share their choice and explain how it is representative of their mood.

At the end of the exercise, participants can comment on what they noticed or what surprised them about what everyone has shared and what emerges overall.

Tips and Advice

You can help participants who can’t choose by narrowing down their scope of exploration, for example by making them choose one sense at random (hearing, taste, smell, touch, sight).
