House with two hands
Introduce the topic of co-construction through drawing
The house with two hands method is often used in intercultural relationships because it allows us to realise that we don’t all have the same representations of a concept or an idea. It invites us to physically feel the adjustments and the way in which we take on board each other’s suggestions to co-create a common design.
Time needed: 15 minutes
Materials:
As a facilitator, you ask the group to form pairs.
Equipped with a sheet of paper and a pencil, each pair has two minutes to draw a house by holding the pencil together.
At the end of the exercise, it is fun and interesting to meet as a group to compare the drawings and discuss what happened in the two minutes for each pair: Did they observe cooperation? Or competition? Has a leader emerged? Who picked up the pen first? What were their feelings? Etc.
